Santa María Pipioltepec, Mexico - Sofia Malvaez is the only midwife in the small town of Santa María Pipioltepec, Mexico. She has delivered around 2400 babies in her lifetime. The citizens go to her because of the lack of adequate care the local hospitals provides. Some have said they were treated like animals at the local hospitals.
“She told us when we need her help to just knock on her door and she will be there,” said current patient, Yaserih Jaimes.
Malvaez, cares about her patients, treats them with dignity and provides the health care they seek. "They come because they have more faith in me," Malvaez said.
